I’m getting the information about this $5000 AIChE (American Institute of Chemical Engineers) posted a little late for the 2009 deadline (in 6 days). But I wanted to post both for the few who might be eligible but either haven’t heard about this or might not have realized the deadline was coming up so soon and for other chemical engineering majors who might want to plan for next year.

Award/Contest: John J. McKetta Undergraduate Scholarship

Amount: $5000

Who is Eligible: Rising junior or senior undergraduate chemical engineering students planning a career in the chemical engineering process industries (CPI.)

Summary: Awarded to a chemical engineering undergraduate student (incoming junior or senior only), planning a career in the chemical engineering process industries (CPI.) Selection criteria includes:

1) Minimum 3.0/4.0 GPA;

2) Nominee must be in junior or senior year of a 4-year program in Chemical Engineering or equivalent for a 5-year co-op program;

3) Student must submit a maximum two-page essay outlining career goals in the chemical engineering process industries;

4) The nominee should be a national student member of AIChE;

5) It is preferred/strongly encouraged that the nominee show leadership or activity in either the school’s AIChE Student Chapter or other university sponsored campus activity;

6) Only students attending ABET accredited schools in the US, Canada, and Mexico are eligible;

7) Nomination must be accompanied by a minimum of two letters of recommendation (in English.) One nomination letter must be from the AIChE student chapter advisor. Another letter must be from either a departmental faculty member or a technical work supervisor (internship or REU supervisor).

8) Limited to one nomination per student chapter per year.
